Free Garden Clipart for Collage, Graphic Design, Papercrafts or Scrapbooking: Big Sister Sheltering Her Little Brother from Rain

The rain set early in tonight,
The sullen wind was soon awake,
It tore the elm-tops down for spite,
And did its best to vex the lake:
I listened with heart fit to break.
When glided in Porphyria; straight
She shut the cold out and the storm,
And kneeled and made the cheerless grate
Blaze up and all the cottage warm...
Robert Browning

Two panel illustration from 1866 showing a young girl (big sister) sheltering a young boy (little brother) from gusty winds and blowing rain with an old but apparently sturdy umbrella.

Free Garden Clipart for Collage, Graphic Design, Papercrafts or Scrapbooking: Daffy-down Dilly

Cheerfulness, it would appear,
is a matter which depends fully as much on the state
of things within,
as on the state of things without and around us.
Charlotte Brontë

Portrait of a young girl in a bonnet clutching a posy of flowers. The drawing is decorated with a border of cheerful daffodils. A little verse reads:

Daffy-down dilly is just come to town
With a red shawl and a pink gown
And all the flowers are smiling around.

There are two types of appointments in life!
Appointments you know and appointments you don't know!
It is this second type of appointment that makes life interesting and but also scary.
Sometimes life will arrange a meeting for you; sometimes good, sometimes bad
and sometimes even tragic meeting, but you don't know about it!
Mehmet Murat ildan

I am glad that I paid so little attention to good advice;
had I abided by it I might have been saved from some of my most valuable mistakes.
Edna St. Vincent Millay

Free Vintage Garden Clipart for Collage, Papercrafts, Scrapbooking or Wall Art: Conversations in the Garden 3

It was they who taught me that a conversation even between strangers
could be a gift and a sport of sorts, a chance for warmth, banter, blessings, humor,
that spoken words could be a little fire at which you warmed yourself.
Rebecca Solnit, Recollections of My Nonexistence: A Memoirn

An antique illustration from 1867 showing a scene from the garden. A lady with her daughter has come to visit a friend or relative in her garden. They seem to have interrupted the lady of the house in the middle of arranging a bouquet of flowers (peach-coloured roses or poppies, perhaps) in a vase.

Free Vintage Garden Clipart for Altered Art, Graphic Design, Papercrafts or Scrapbooking: Conversations in the Garden 1 & 2

In the best conversations, you don't even remember what you talked about, only how it felt.
It felt like we were in some place your body can't visit,
some place with no ceiling and no walls and no floor and no instruments.
John Green, Turtles All the Way Down

Two vintage illustrations from 1891 showing scenes from the garden. The first illustration shows three Victorian ladies chatting in the garden. Two of the ladies are sitting on garden benches while the third lady (who is wearing a veiled hat) has her hand on the shoulder of the seated lady on the left. In the background is some shrubbery and a sundial.

The second illustration shows two ladies sitting on a garden bench while a third lady stands behind them. The seated lady at the back of the bench is holding an umbrella, the lady seated in front is gazing straight ahead with a posy of flowers on her lap. Free Vintage Postcard for Holiday Cardmaking and Announcements or Storytelling Collage: Romantic Edwardian Couple on Terrace in Twilight

I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look or the words, which laid the foundation.
It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

A vintage postcard from c1910 showing a beautiful Edwardian lady in a blush pink evening gown and bright blossoms in her hair embracing a handsome Edwardian gentleman with a magnificent handlebar moustache on an outdoor terrace in the twilight. He looks extremely dashing in his white tie and tails as he clasps her gently around the waist with one hand while the other hand cradles her right arm. His gaze is tenderly affectionate and her smile is luminously happy.

I thought this image would be a great graphic for holiday invitation cards, party announcements or even in a romantic storytelling collage. You can download the high-res 6” x 9” @ 300 ppi JPEG without a watermark here.

Free Vintage Outdoor Clipart for Crafts, Collage or Junk Journaling: Victorian Girl Gathering Garden Flowers

When we are children we seldom think of the future.
This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can.
The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind.

Free Vintage Garden Clipart for Cardmaking, Collage or Junk Journaling: Three Sisters with Plant, Rake, and a Watering Can

With rake and seeds and sower,
And hoe and line and reel,
When the meadows shrill with “peeping”
And the old world wakes from sleeping,
Who wouldn't be a grower
That has any heart to feel?
Frederick Frye Rockwell, “Invitation,” Around the Year in the Garden
